As stated, we will be doing this in English. Thank you for the permission to do this in English. So far, I've really enjoyed the other German presentations. I do understand German. It's just that if I had to do this in German, I would probably only do one slide, and it would take me eight minutes. So without further ado, Linz Flood Rescue, an exploration into the effects of climate change on the city of Linz flood rescue an exploration into the effects of climate change on the city of Linz so climate change has become an everyday topic in our lives we have Fridays for Future for example everyone is trying to recycle basically everything they can for example in Linz Jotka was trying to go climate neutral by 2030 I think that's a very gracious goal and For example, in Linz, Jotka was trying to go climate neutral by 2030. I think that's a very gracious goal. And I'm very excited to see how that's going to turn out. But that's not what we're here for. We're here for our project. Right, so first some context. I actually moved to Linz about two years ago. And I had no idea that Linz has actually seen such images before. So when I actually did find out that so much of the riverbank has overflooded, it made me think, I mean, what could it look like if things get worse? You know, if climate change exacerbates the effects of the river flooding. And that's where the inspiration for our game came. So some more context. As you know, most cities are founded on rivers. You know, Paris, London, all these big cities, because rivers are very important. They're a fresh supply of water, they help us move goods, and they are a double-edged sword, because if things go bad, they can actually hurt us more than help us. And the way we did it is to make it very personal by using Lens as the map for the game. These are videos, but I am not sure if they will play. Oh, okay. Apparently, we cannot play the videos. We cannot play these videos. Okay, that is going to be kind of bad. Apparently we can't play the videos. We can't play these videos. Okay, that's going to be kind of bad because... Okay well, does that mean that none of it's going to play? Okay that one plays. This one plays. I'm so sorry. So this is what we did. We took a 3D map of Linz and we added some water to it and exaggerated a bit what Linz could look like if the flooding was really bad. And as you can see, the main point of the game, at the very start of the concepting phase was that you play as a rescue boat and you can drive around and there are little people to pick up and that was just a ground-based idea with a little counter of how many people you save. And that's actually helped plots if anyone's wondering yep so just some more imagery passing through the little canal between how plots and Tobin marked in a rescue boat and we added some debris as well some cars these kinds of things just to sell the effect if we had more time we would do trash and other things. Yeah. OK. We have shared our idea with mentors and also on our personal Instagram pages. A lot of people seem to be interested in this idea specifically because a lot of people haven't seen Lens flooded yet or just didn't think that this could even happen. We're talking about people who weren't here for the 2013 flood or the floods before. And yeah, after sharing our idea, we got some more feedback and we started to scope the idea out a bit more and make it more grand. And we settled on some extra features that we concepted. For for example interesting bits of information about rivers, about Linsen specifically for example the fact that actually the river, the Donau used to have a sort of marsh swamp land and all of that's almost gone because of industrialization so there actually used to be a sort of swampy area around Linz. And just to let people know who play this game what things used to be like. For example, also we found out during our concepting that the Danube used to be way more curvy and it was actually straightened out so that ships could travel faster, which means the river can't hold as much water because it's shorter. And yeah, just finding out these pieces of information were really interesting and we wanted to put them in the game. And if we scope it out a bit more... okay if we scope it a bit more we actually also wanted to give the player the ability to preemptively prepare for such floods such as placing down flood barriers and turning it into more of a city builder style possibly even controlling the dams along the Danube, because we also found out that the Danube has dams and during these floods they would actually close them in less populated areas so that the countryside would get flooded and Lins would be safe. And that's also an interesting moral question because there are still people in the countryside and we if we had more time, we would have concepted something like this to give the user even more control of the situation. So what did we learn at the end of this? When we showed people our project, we mainly got three emotions. Some of them were shocked. Some of them were surprised. And all of them were basically wowed by basically how flooded Linz looked like. Just the thought of having to sail a boat from place A to place B, like it's Venice, was shocking to a lot of people. And a lot of people, as I said, a lot of people never thought that this could be a thing. And they were just surprised by the fact that this could actually happen, not particularly in our lifetimes, but down the future, it's entirely possible. And a lot of people haven't really thought about it or talked about it or anything. Right. Yeah, so to reiterate, the point was just all these landmarks, just to see them like that, it really, I mean, I actually remember showing it to someone, I'm not sure if they're here today, but their first reaction was, I hope that doesn't happen. And that's exactly what I wanted the player to experience because to actually show them such imagery usually makes them think more about climate change rather than you know playing a game where you negotiate about climate change you don't really see the impact but if you're in a first responder point of view the disaster has already happened I think it gives you some more understanding about how a disaster could unfold and And yeah, just some more. Oh this one works, okay that's great. Yeah. Thank you to the organizers again for letting us do this in English and for the mentors who gave us a lot of resources about what the city is actually doing to combat flooding. Thanks again. Thank you.
