atha raum

The atha.raum is a space where I bring contemplative practice from different fields, work with a co-creator/ special guest and invite the participants to get out of their comfort zone and usual patterns of connecting to themselves, to spaces, to other people, to ways of being present and creating.

Even though my background is in fine arts and I’ve been working for many years as a media artist, this time I’ve decided to create a series of experiences instead of creating more objects in our overcrowded world. Lately I’ve been searching for ways to bring together my work as a media artist and yoga teacher. Based on more than 25 years of creating/ producing art & culture projects and almost 10 years of teaching Yoga, I’ve created these participatory immersive experiences, site-specific to various physical spaces.

The Sanskrit word "atha" (अथ) means "now" and evokes the state of nowness. When the human brain enters this state, contemplation could happen easily. Why contemplation? We’ll find experiential answers at the atha raum. In August and September we will experiment with different practices and connect with others in unusual ways to break habitual patterns of moving, thinking,  breathing, using our voices, being present in space or even doing nothing.

Everyone does nothing in different ways, right?

Here is also what the atha.raum is NOT:

- it is not a Yoga class

- it is not an art performance

- it is not an art installation

- it is not art therapy

- it is not coaching

- it is not performers-audience configuration - we are all in, taking part, actively or passively participating

- it is not special, complex or complicated

- it is not mystical, although it can be kinda magical

- it is not staged and/ or performative in intentional ways, even though it could look like

- it is not result oriented, it’s process driven

- it is not about show and statements, it is rather about discovering, uncovering, getting surprised

- it is not about introspection, it is about open attention

- it is not meant to be relaxing or restorative only, but it helps to feel safe and taken care of

- it is not exclusively dedicated to artists, yogis, experienced professionals from any field, it is open for everyone curious to step out of their usual ways of being and doing

- it is not to be explained, it is rather to be experienced.
