“Step, Noise, Space”

Video, 20 Minutes, Performance “Step, Noise, Space”, April 18. 2026 Fort Bourguignon Pula

I enter the circular courtyard not as a visitor, but as a probing measure within space. The circle I walk is not an ornament, but a movement of return, step by step a question posed to the site and to what endures within it.

The accordion appears as a machine of breath. Its bellows think in pressure and release, and from this movement my accordion noise emerges, a sound that does not impose order but makes edges, friction, and resistance audible.

I walk barefoot, out of an ethic of touch. The ground carries grain, coldness, and unevenness, sediments of use and time. History is not narrated here, but experienced in the contact between body and material.

Fort Bouguignon is not a backdrop, but a resonant body of wall, air, and curvature. The speaker playing the altered accordion-noise sounds is placed at the center. I move in a circle and yet continually return to the middle, so that an open dialogue arises between myself, the noise, and the space. The video documentation becomes a second ear, preserving how the circular movement touches the space and how the noise briefly sets history in motion.

In this way, the performance becomes a form of thinking in steps, binding time to space and body to material. What remains open is whether history is ever complete, or whether, akin to the circle, it begins anew.
