Route 66 quickly became popular as Germany's first Open Source Film after its release under a Creative Commons License in 2004.
Downloaded a million times, spread on 600.000 DVDs and used by artists and colleges around Europe, the movie lead to the foundation of the Open Source Film Netlabel VEB FILM Leipzig.
